The guild hall falls from the sky onto the empty square

Update · Wilbur

Your first game starts on an empty square. Then the houses fall.

The old tutorial was a wall of text. The new one is a wall, a roof and a chimney, dropping out of the sky one house at a time, while Wilbur shows you his first week.

· Text: the Gazette town crier

The old tutorial meant well, but let's call it what it was: a wall of text. Thirteen houses, four bars, a candle, rent and a rival, all of it on your very first screen. Most people pressed Skip. Honestly, we would have too.

So we tore the town down. Start your first game now and the square is empty. Just the well, and Wilbur standing next to it looking a bit lost. Which, to be fair, is his natural look.

Thump

Then a shadow grows on the cobbles. The guild hall drops out of the sky and lands with a thump, a cloud of dust and a little shake of the board. Your first job: dough kneader. Here comes the bakery, thump, and you walk over and work your first 8 hours.

Next, Wilbur explains the candle (one candle is one week) and the four bars you have to fill: rich, happy, smart and boss. Whoever fills them first, wins. Then the tavern lands. You eat there, and you sleep there. Three places. That is really all you need. After that the rest of the town comes down, one by one, and you take it from there.

Dust, the hard way

In the first version the dust was a handful of little drawn balls. They looked like popcorn. ChatGPT then painted a proper dust cloud, four frames, that blows out to the left and right when a house lands. A small thing, but it seperates "a box appeared" from "a building just fell on the square".

Thump. The guild hall lands in its own cloud of dust. Popcorn not included.

Fernand also caught a word. The tutorial used to say "now you know three houses". But later in the game you can build a house of your own, so that got confusing. It now says places.

Skip is still there at every step, and then the rest of the town drops at once. Games you already started don't notice a thing.
